Plane crashes, killing all 34 on board



A Mozambique Airlines plane en route to Angola crashed in a game park in northeast Namibia killing all 34 people on board, a Namibian police official said on Saturday.
Namibian Police Force Deputy Commissioner Willy Bampton said that the burned out wreckage of the aircraft, which went missing on Friday, was found in the Bwabwata National Park, near the borders with Angola and Botswana.

ASUU dares FG over sack



Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities [ASUU], Calabar Zone, has reacted angrily to the order to return to the classrooms issued to them by the Supervising Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, saying that the action would worsen the strike action rather than solving the problem.
ASUU accused the minister of deceiving  President Jonathan on the crisis, alleging that Wike and some other unnamed officials of the Government did not want the lingering problem between the union and the Federal Government to be resolved.

409 Nigerians serving jail terms in South Africa



The House of Representatives, yesterday, has condemned the ill-treatment and discrimination against Nigerians living in South Africa, stressing that at least more than 409 were currently serving jail terms in the country.
Chairman of the House Committee on Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, disclosed this in a statement issued after the committee’s visit to two prisons in South Africa.

Policeman arraigned for shooting 9-yr-old boy



A policeman, who allegedly shot and killed a nine-year-old boy while dispersing a mob, appeared before an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, , yesterday, on a charge of manslaughter.
Thirty-nine-year-old Rasak Alowonle is facing a count charge.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Richard Odigie, the  mob attempted to stop the accused from seizing a commercial bus.

Sharia police smash 240,000 bottles of beer in Kano

Asari-Dokubo Arrested in Benin Republic



The leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, was today arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

A statement by his lawyer, Festus Keyamo, said Dokubo was picked up by the police between 1:00pm and 2:00pm around the Lubeleyi roundabout, and taken to an unknown destination.

The wealthy former militant reportedly opened a private university in the Benin Republic, the King Amachree African University that is preparing to start degree-awarding programmes in 2014.

A police corporal said to be attached to Oregbeni Police Station, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City has allegedly killed his colleague, an Inspector.
The suspect simply identified as Ozeigbe Omobunde was alleged to have committed the act at about 8 p.m, Monday night in the EdoState capital.
It was gathered that the inspector whose identity could not be ascertained at press time was killed on his way to work beside Guinness Nigeria Plc, Benin plant by the corporal who is now on the run.
The reason for the suspect’s action could also not be ascertained at press time.

Mysterious goat delivers human-like kid in Ekiti



A mystery was recorded  in the  rural community of Olori Oko near Ogotun Ekiti in Ekiti South-West Local Government of Ekiti State as a goat allegedly gave birth to a strange creature.
Olori- Oko, a farm stead dominated by people of Ede and Modakeke in Osun State  is about six kilometres  to Ogotun Ekiti and three kilometres away from Ikeji Arakeji  in Osun State, with  about 500 residents, witnessed a huge, bewildered crowd that stormed the serene community from the neighboring towns and villages to catch a glimpse at the strange birth.

Gunmen attack Aviation Minister Oduah- Police



The FCT Police Command on Monday in Abuja confirmed that gunmen fired shots at the car of the Minister of Aviation, Ms Stella Oduah in Abuja.
The spokesperson of the command, Altine Daniel, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the incident occurred at about 10 p.m. on Friday.

FG condemns ASUU’s new demands



The Federal Government, yesterday, condemned the new conditions which Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, insists must be met before the five-month old strike could be called off.

5 killed, houses burnt as gunmen attack Plateau community



Five people were yesterday killed and several houses burnt at Kuka village in Shendam Local government Area of Plateau State when armed men attacked the village.

Man jailed five years for selling child for N10m



According to Vanguard.A Niger State magistrate court sitting in Minna, the state capital, has sentenced one Isah Aliyu to five years imprisonment for intending to sell his 9-year-old child for N10m.
The 30-year-old man attributed his action to poverty.
The incident occurred on November 15 when the buyer, one Mallam Magaji, agreed to buy the child for N7 million.
