How to Remove Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications in Windows 7

If you are experiencing a Windows build message on your computer; a message that reads "This copy of Windows is not genuine" then it means that your computer hasn't passed the validation test.


The validation test can fail because you have installed a pirated non-genuine copy of Windows 7, or because you have changed your Windows 7 product key to a software-generated key or happens for no reason at all.

Microsoft has a new update for Windows 7's built-in activation and validation system (Windows Activation Technologies) which helps identify counterfeit or pirated Windows software. The new update is delivered via Windows Update, with title of “Update for Microsoft Windows (KB971033).

So if you have downloaded this update even though it is being flagged as 'Important', it opens a connection to Microsoft's servers every time the files are loaded thereby in time you get this message "Windows is not genuine".

Step 1
To remove WAT download RemoveWAT. Extract the WAT removal app file on your computer.

Step 2
Right click on the software and Run as an Administrator. Windows will prompt you to run the software. Click on "Yes".

Step 3
The removeWAT app will show up. Click on "Remove WAT".

Step 4
An installation message will come up "The RemoveWAT installation will begin. When it is complete you will have to restart your computer. Begin" Click on "OK".

Step 5
The software will run and when it completes, it will restart your computer automatically and then you are done.

Step 6
To confirm if it worked, go to "System Properties" on your computer. You will see that the activation warning below the page is gone.

Step 7
To avoid any such problem in the future, go to "Windows Update" and disable the Windows Update feature. Change it from whatever it is to "Never Check for Updates".

Make sure to disable the Windows Update feature so as to avoid downloading and installing the "KB971033" Windows update as it will nullify the WAT Remover action.
