The Cost of Having a Girlfriend in Nigeria

A relationship in Nigeria is a one-hard game, most times – expensive and hard to come by. Here are some of the experiences guys usually have with their girlfriends.
another, hopefully leading to a permanent relationship (or in marriage). But as I have observed over the years, having a girlfriend is getting costlier by the day.

The guy is just the boyfriend, and not the husband.

In terms of funding, guys are seen to have the upper hand in a relationship. This is not alarming for some guys, while it can be for others.

In Nigeria, converting most relationships into business, girls/ladies seem to be the consumers while the boys/guys are the producers.

Here is the list of things that goes on in the life of a boy who has a Nigerian girlfriend.

· She will request to take you out. At the end of the day, you will be the one to fund the entire outing.

· You buy a better phone for her (…BB), you pay for her BIS, recharge card and still be the one to do the calling.

· During festive seasons, you don’t take a gift to her – you had actually funded the expenditures before the event.

· The guy becomes responsible for her academic expenditures.

· Depending on her family financial ability, the guy becomes responsible for everyone else.

· If the guy has a car – welcome the new “taxi”.

· The guy is converted to Automated Teller Machine (ATM) for all her expenditures.

· Lose of useful hours that could have been used in pursuing life’s goal.

· Impulsive expenses that may likely not have been factored in the guy’s budget.

· Poor saving habit – especially for those who do not take cognizance of what they spend on their girlfriends while still together.

· Unnecessary heartbreaks when the lady finally leaves you.

· Possibility of contacting terminal diseases.

· Coming under undue and avoidable pressure.

· Lack of concentration at work and other engagements.

· Subject to premature nagging and emotional traumas.

· Having emergency marriage due to unwanted pregnancy.

· Struggling to support someone else when maybe, the guy can barely stand on his own.
